Britain is ringed by about 120 commercial ports and harbours, and yet previous efforts to shift freight from trucks and trains to ships have achieved little. Now, with the UK’s inland transport network over-stretched, and environmental pressures increasing, the Department for Transport is again exploring coastal shipping opportunities
Shoreham Port on the south coast of England already handles some domestic shipping services but believes there is scope for more, taking pressure off Britain’s crowded motorways
