Running on empty: US box imbalance deepens

Despite the protectionist policies of the US administration, the gap between imports and exports widened in 2018. Empty container handling climbed to record highs last year with incidence rising to more than a quarter of all US port liftings

The box imbalance was most pronounced in the second half of the year as imports surged on the back of proposed tariffs, according to Alphaliner
