Vale closes distribution centre in Malaysia after fire
In another incident affecting iron ore shipments, Brazilian miner Vale said a fire broke out on Friday at its distribution centre in Malaysia. However, the miner said the fire was restricted to material damage so operations are expected to resume quickly and means long-term average export figures are unlikely to be affected
The unexpected shutdown will mean a reduction in exports to somewhere between 600,000 tonnes to 1m tonnes over 10 to 15 days, with the losses expected to be made up next month with bigger shipments, analayst Wood Mackenzie estimates
