Maersk said to be quitting UK flag

Danish shipping giant Maersk is about to withdraw its last vessels from the UK flag and stop training UK cadets, according to Nautilus International. The company has promised to issue a statement on the matter.

Maersk could follow P&O Ferries and other companies in ditching the Red Ensign, sparking fears of a Brexit-driven mass exodus from the UK Ship Register. Such a development will further shrink the already-depleted ranks of Britain’s seafarers, union says
