IRISL vessels drive up idle containership fleet
Alphaliner data shows as many as 19 sanctioned ships linked to HDASCO, the liner arm of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, have been added to the idle pool. Unemployed capacity has risen to more than 620,000 teu globally, and with transpacific extra loaders returning to the fold this number is expected to rise before the year is out
Three of IRISL’s 14,508 teu newbuilds have joined the idle pool, with the remaining fourth vessel set to join them imminently
