Greek shipowners applaud IMO body's action on 2020 fuel safety

The International Maritime Organization’s Maritime Safety Committee last week agreed to pursue development of ‘further measures’ to enhance the safety of ships related to use of fuel oil. The Union of Greek Shipowners is among the first to applaud the move, noting that fuel safety issues are ‘expected to become more acute’ as the sulphur cap draws near

IMO’s safety committee wants ‘concrete proposals’ to enhance ship safety in light of concerns regarding safety of low-sulphur fuel blends, expressed by Greek owners’ union and others
