Alphaliner questions instant box booking rationale
With CMA CGM following in the footsteps of Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd by offering customers instant online booking, Alphaliner raises concerns about the viability of such platforms. The industry analyst also points to Maersk’s short-lived Youship product and how the factors that led to its downfall fundamentally remain.
Maersk Line launched its Youship offering in 2008, which promised to make booking a box as easy as booking a flight, but it was abandoned just over 18 months later after failing to gain market traction
