IMO takes next steps on autonomous shipping regulation
Autonomous vessels still have some way to go before they penetrate the market, at least on a wider scale. But as local autonomous ferry projects are launched, regulators are keen to keep up with the technological pace and consider how and if current International Maritime Organization rules are fit for this future type of ship
Safety regulators agree a two-phase approach which will wrap up by May 2020 and will consider regulatory changes or additions
