Marsoft issues charter rate warning over trade war threat

Damage to shipping as a result of tariffs has been small so far, says Marsoft consultant Julia Zhan, but her company predicts a drop in charter rates across markets in 2019 if trade disputes become a trade war. The impact will be uneven among sectors, with liquefied natural gas carriers hit hardest and dry bulk avoiding tonne-mile losses through changing trade patterns

Marsoft argues that a fully fledged trade war would cut US-China traffic by 20% and trigger a global recession
