SMM: HFO future does not dampen scrubbers’ outlook, says Yara chief
Yara Marine Technologies is riding the scrubber boom. Having installed its first system in 2012, the Norwegian company has now secured hundreds of orders ahead of the 2020 cap and has owners committed to exercising order options by 2022, making it one of the big three, alongside Wärtsilä and AlfaLaval. Company chief executive Peter Strandberg is confident that the serious players in the industry are willing to pay a premium price for the product and is not daunted by the prospects of heavy fuel oil in a low-sulphur fuel oil world
Yara has increased its orderbook to several hundred scrubber orders per year and is vying for bigger manufacturing capacity to add to that tally
