P&I clubs’ rate hike bears fruit with cheaper renewals
LAST year proved to be a difficult one for the protection and indemnity clubs, which had seen investment income more or less dry up in the wake of the global credit crash. The clubs, which offer shipowners a mutual system for insuring their risk, had used strong investment returns in part to cover underwriting losses.
