Giant steps New cranes for Bremerhaven

At the end of an eight-week sailing from Shanghai the heavylift ship Zhen Hua 14 has delivered four of five ZPMC-built post-panamax cranes to the MSC Gate terminal in Bremerhaven. They will be able to handle the largest container vessels carrying 22 container rows on the hatches. Arrival of the fifth is scheduled for January 2008. The cranes are part of an investment programme in MSC Gate, a joint venture between Mediterranean Shipping Co and Eurogate which has targeted a traffic increase of 30% to 800,000 teu in 2007. The terminal will also be extended with a third berth on the Weser and a feeder berth in the Nordhafen area using a mobile crane. Ralf Witthohn
