EC job Borg boosts Bodewig
EUROPEAN Commissioner for maritime affairs, Joe Borg, has appointed former German federal minister of transport Kurt Bodewig (left) as maritime ambassador for the European Commission.Mr Bodewig is chairman of the Baltic Sea Forum, a non-profit organisation that supports economic, political and cultural co-operation in the Baltic Sea region. He was one of 50 maritime ambassadors appointed. All the ambassadors are personalities with outstanding knowledge and experience of maritime issues, according to the commission.The ambassadors’ task is to help present the idea of an integrated approach to maritime issues to the public.This will constitute the basis for a new European Union maritime policy. All 50 of the ambassadors are asked to give their own views on maritime issues and to disseminate these through interviews, conferences and debates. AP
