Southampton cruise calls near historic million passengers mark
SOUTHAMPTON, already far and away the leading British port for handling cruise calls, could hit the magical 1m passenger mark next year. That compares with around 200,000 cruise passengers less than a decade ago; and even in the so-called heyday of the port in the 1950s, when almost all travel was by sea, the record was 689,000 passengers through the port in 1955.
