Imports aid impressive results for gateways
The two leading Spanish gateway ports, Valencia and Barcelona, both turned in impressive performances in 2006, with fast rising import traffic from the Far East and China exerting a major influence. These two ports have also developed as transhipment centres and continue to offer viable alternatives to the dedicated hub ports in the western Mediterranean.
