A Victorian hijacking
WITH all this talk of hijacking and piracy, it was a sheer delight to discover that the Liverpool Nautical Research Society has, in its latest issue, an intriguing account of the theft of a small steamer by a gang of plausible conmen, who stole away the ship from a shipbroker’s office in London’s Gracechurch Street and took it all the way to Australia, along with a cargo of coffee.
