REMEMBRANCE of the slave trade and the processes by which we make peace with the past is fraught with modern difficulties. These can range from discomfort and disdain to plain disinterest, but the efforts to mark and remember the transatlantic slave trade are also important for reminding us that slavery exists today, though often in subtler forms.
