AT short notice earlier this month, a cruiseship diverted in the Denmark Strait to commemorate Britain’s worst single disaster in the 1939-1945 Battle of the Atlantic: an explosion that destroyed the battle cruiser HMS Hood, with the loss of 1,415 men.
