Slump in coal volume forces Szczecin-Swinoujscie rethink
IF THERE was any proof that the Polish twin ports of Szczecin-Swinoujscie needed to diversify away from handling mainly steel and coal to becoming a universal port, it was delivered in 2007 by coal handling figures. Volume plunged 19% from 5m tonnes to 4.2m tonnes. In the current year, the management is expecting coal handling to reach a meagre 3m tonnes.
