Flemish and Dutch strike historic pact over Scheldt
THE deepening of the River Scheldt is being heralded as an historic move. On March 11, 2005, the Flemish and Dutch governments finally established the Development Outline 2010 for the Scheldt estuary. The plan detailed the strategy, projects and measures that needed to be completed in order to ensure that the Scheldt is “accessible, natural and safe in 2010”.
