Seventh sister Maersk Beaumont berths at Bremerhaven
Reportedly reaching speeds of over 30 knots, the world’s fastest containerships are still holding a firm place in the Maersk schedules. Three months after delivery by Volkswerft Stralsund, the last of seven newbuildings, Maersk Beaumont, is serving ports in North Europe. Pictured with Maersk, MOL, APL and Hyundai boxes laden on deck, the new ship arrived at Bremerhaven last week. The carrier will join Maersk’s Andean loop from Algeciras to Panama and San Antonio. Original plans to establish an express service between China, Japan and the US west coast have only partly been realised. Regular Pacific crossings are currently undertaken by Maersk Boston, Maersk Baltimore, Maersk Bentonville and Maersk Buffalo. At the same time, Maersk Brooklyn is racing on a Taiwan-China-southeast Asia string, while Maersk Brownsville serves the Safari loop from the Far East to South Africa. Ralf Witthohn
