Piracy - November 17

London, Nov 17 -- A press report, dated today, states: Guards on board general cargo Lady Juliet (12296 gt, built 1983) successfully fought off pirates in the Gulf of Aden yesterday. Pirates firing Kalashnikov assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades approached the vessel from their mother ship but came under return fire from a European Union naval force (NAVFOR) detachment protecting the vessel. NAVFOR supplies vulnerable ships with armed guards under certain circumstances. No one was hurt on board the Lady Juliet and any casualties among the pirates could not be confirmed.
