London, Oct 22 -- Intense hurricane "Rick" struck Mexico as a tropical storm at about 1500, UTC, Oct 21. Data supplied by the US Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Centre suggest that the point of landfall was near lat 23.4N, long 106.3W. "Rick" brought one-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around 51 mph. Wind gusts in the area may have been considerably higher. (See issue of Oct 22.)
