Port State Control - October 16
Kiel, Oct 16 -- St. Vincent-Grenadines flagged general cargo Soyana (3988 gt, built 1992) was detained in Bremerhaven by police in the midday hours, Oct 15 after several deficiencies were found. Four cubic metres of oily waste were found in a tank which was not intended for oil storage. The No.1 engineer said he had not known about this waste though he was already one month on board the ship. He had to pay a safety fine of 3,000 Euros and will be prosecuted. Another tank of the vessel had sustained water ingress and was found completely flooded. The cause is yet to be investigated. The ship has to remain in port until the investigations are completed.
