Zim to levy emergency bunker surcharge
ISRAELI line Zim is to impose an extra fee to cover rising fuel costs. An emergency bunker surcharge of $75 per teu will be imposed from the start of next month covering cargo being shipped from Asia to the Mediterranean and northern Europe. Some other lines are taking similar initiatives as fuel costs soar at time when freight rates remain at rock bottom. Zim said the emergency levy would be applied in cases where the baf is already included in the all-in freight rate rate or has been fixed. Shipments where the baf is separated and floating will not be affected by the emergency surcharge that will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
