Lined up to take on the future
THE Maritime London Officer Cadet Scheme, which used to be run by the Corporation of Lloyd’s, has been in operation for some years. Indeed it must be at least five years ago I attended a party to celebrate the first of these cadets to achieve command, and the scheme has come on apace since then. Managed by Chiltern Marine, which has a fine reputation for recognising and nurturing talent, the MLOCS is a means by which sponsoring companies, which employ former ships’ officers in so many ways in the maritime infrastructure ashore, can put something back to help a new generation into their sea career.
