AP Moller Maersk rejects need for fresh capital

AP MOLLER Maersk has dismissed suggestions the Danish shipping and energy giant needs to raise fresh capital as the company faces a large loss in its containership business. A report in the Danish media, citing four analyst reports, indicated Moller-Maersk may need to raise funds to finance planned investments. However, group chief executive Nils Andersen told Bloomberg: “The group is well capitalised with a strong equity ratio, has adequate financial means, and does not need a capital increase.” Last week, Fearnley Fonds forecast that parent group AP Moller-Maersk will sustain an adjusted net loss of $858m in the current year, mainly driven by a deficit of $1.9bn in its containers business.
