MALTA'S newest pilot boat
ECHO 1 was seen going through its paces last week in the Grand Harbour when four warships arrived in Malta. Built at Safe Haven Marine, Cobh, Co Cork, Ireland, at a cost of €800,000 ($1,014,198) the
Echo 1 is powered by a twin Scania D12 450 hp engine and can reach a top speed of 23 knots. It weights 20 tonnes and can withstand very rough weather. Two more pilot vessels are in the pipeline.
