IHC Merwede bucks trend with series of new orders
DESPITE a general economic downturn in the shipbuilding industry, IHC Merwede announced a series of orders valued at some €300m ($425m) in December. These include the construction of two 12,000 cu m trailing suction hopper dredgers for the Yangtze Estuary Waterway Administration Bureau in China and eight medium-sized stationary cutter suction dredgers. Three of these ‘standard’ CSDs are for the Adani Group in India, while five more CSDs have been ordered by a Chinese operator.
