NZ government left to fund NZ$1.2bn quake fund shortfall
The New Zealand Earthquake Commission’s (EQC) annual accounts have revealed a loss of NZ$7.1bn ($5.45bn) in the aftermath of the Canterbury earthquakes, wiping out its entire natural disaster fund of NZ$5.9bn and leaving the government with a NZ$1.2bn bill to bridge the shortfall.
